Into the Great Wide Open

Want to experience the greatness of the smallest Wadden Island? Well, be sure not to miss the ‘Into the Great Wide Open’ festival on Vlieland. The organizers are planning to have artists perform all over the island for all of four days. If the measures allow, you will be able to dance your heart out on the festival grounds, sing by the campfire on the beach, eat freshly caught seabass, or admire interactive installations amid the dunes. All this in a setting that revolves around sustainability as befits Wadden Sea, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Waddenzee Werelderfgoed - Into the Great Wide Open

Ever since the first edition, the organization has made every effort to make the festival as sustainable as possible. Ensuring fossil-free travel to and from the island of Vlieland and turning all of the festival’s waste into raw materials are only some of the latest steps that have been taken since the last edition of the festival. It is inspiring to see how much progress has been made towards a circular and climate neutral festival!

COVID-19 measures

Because the COVID-19 measures keep changing, it is not yet known at this time what form the festival will take. The same holds for all of its programming. The organization aims to unite art, music and people on Vlieland in the weekend of September 2 through 5. Keep an eye on their website for the latest developments.
