The Rottum Express
Far from the inhabited world
Five days and nights of sailing on the wind, running aground at low tide, and visiting the uninhabited island of Rottumeroog: this is an extraordinary sailing trip on the clipper Willem Jacob that you really don’t want to miss. Want to be there? Make time in September, the only time of the year for this Rottum Express tour of the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This fully catered trip lets you discover the many faces of the Wadden Sea area. See places far from the inhabited world and take time to enjoy the peace and quiet. Your adventure starts on Tuesday night; the Willem Jacob is back in the harbor of Lauwersoog at the end of the afternoon on Sunday.
In the course of the week, you will visit several landscape types in the Wadden Sea and have the opportunity to explore the salt flats as they run dry at low tide. Visiting Rottumeroog is the highlight of the journey, since this is one of the most beautiful parts of the Wadden Sea. Fortunately the varied schedule leaves plenty of time to read a good book and enjoy the sunsets. When evening falls and the sky turns dark (virtually cloudless), the darkness in the Wadden Sea area is incomparable. Which constellations do you know?
