Excite your senses at Museum Beelden aan Zee

Museum Beelden aan Zee is located on the long, wide boulevard in Scheveningen. It is the only museum in the Netherlands that focuses solely on modern and contemporary sculpture, both Dutch and international. The proximity to the North Sea and the dunes is palpable and visible in every aspect of the museum, inside and out. The shell-shaped building featuring numerous terraces and patios filled with works of sculpture art provides a splendid view of the sea. Starting or ending your day with a brisk walk on the beach adds an extra dimension to your visit and room for reflection.

How sculpture and the sea blend together

The Beelden aan Zee collection includes more than 1,000 sculptures, about 1,000 casts and several hundred medals.

From the outside, you don't actually see any of the sculptures inside waiting to be discovered. The building, which was designed by Dutch architect Wim Quist, is bunkered down in the dunes, facing away from the noise and action on the busiest beach boulevard in the Netherlands. You can find some shade and quiet here amidst all the hustle and bustle. The view of the North Sea here is one you will not find just anywhere; truly special!

Even this close to the city a sense of calm prevails, thanks to the murmur of the sea and the inviting beach full of natural treasures. This part of Scheveningen is a surfing zone. Beach volleyball is gaining popularity here every year, too. The restaurants are plentiful and laid-back.
