The purity of the landscape

This is what caught Van Gogh’s eye time and again. His view of the landscape continues to inspire today. And you can still see the compositions of his paintings in the natural landscape, to be spotted by alert viewers in the course of this active journey. The trip includes two cozy overnight stays, two breakfasts, a canoe trip, and several beautiful cycling routes. This trip is for sportive travelers who want to learn more about the Dutch nature and culture.

Micro adventure in Brabant

Your trip starts in Den Bosch on your own or a rented bicycle. You’ll explore the attractive city center and enjoy a cup of coffee with a local delicacy: Bossche Bollen. The route then leads out of the city towards the marsh area and the Hooidonkse Water Mill. From here you can choose: follow the route via the impressive Kamp Vught or the Moerputten nature reserve to a lovely hiking area. After walking across a photogenic train bridge and raised path, your bicycle route continues towards Nuenen where Van Gogh painted one quarter of his beloved works including The Potato Eaters. Visit a museum dedicated to the painter and admire the bronze statue of Vincent van Gogh at the park. You’ll get back on your bike in the early evening to follow Daan Roosengaarde’s famous glowing cycling path inspired by Van Gogh’s painting Starry Night.

Vincentre in Nuenen open air museum

If you are in the vicinity of Nuenen, it is definitely worth your time to visit the Vincentre museum. You can get to know the painter as a person in an interactive way and see his development into a world-famous painter. The Brabant population and the farming landscape serve as recognisable sources of inspiration. You will also meet Vincent's family and friends. From the Vincentre, you can walk or cycle past 16 Van Gogh Monuments in the area, where audio columns provide more information about his life and work.

Across water, railroad tracks and elephant paths

On day two you’ll cycle through rural landscapes to Sint-Oedenrode. You will be transported to the canoe site and paddle on the meandering Dommel in a Canadian canoe surrounded by forests and agricultural fields. If you are lucky, you may even spot a kingfisher! Once back in Sint-Oedenrode, the route continues to the lovely Liempde where you can spend the night at a B&B or hiker’s hut. That evening or the next morning, go for another beautiful walk to the Sint-Janspontje ferry, the Duits lijntje (railway) or De Geelders nature reserve. On this last day you will travel back to Den Bosch, passing through the authentic Dommeldal village and another stunning nature reserve called Bossche Broek.
